proposing a SRE/SRE maintained set of infrastructure services
by Christoph Görn
Hey all,
I'd like to propose a SIG/SRE driven set of infrastructure services, including an underlaying OpenShift cluster, and ask for the allocation of hardware from MOC/NERC.
Please see https://github.com/goern/operate-first-community/blob/main/sig-sre/pr... details, the essence:
1. lets have a set of core services up and running to support the Operate First community
2. maintain the services with reasonable, flexible service level expectations
3. create the nucleus for an application platform and expand
4. service the community well
Beside the good intention, and the clarity that we got a bunch of people willing to drive this forward, I am unsure how to ask for the hardware...

Clarifying and focusing our message
by Karsten Wade
Hi folx,
We need to make changes to our messaging and particularly our website. The
changes are to clarify the Operate First project purpose and activities
outside of providing a community cloud as a service for others,
The Operate First community cloud was always a means toward an end goal,
not the goal itself. Our challenge is to clarify the end goal, which needs
to look more like a community of practice
<https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Community_of_practice> than a software or
service provider.
How about this as a process for changing the website?
1. We use this thread to discuss what changes need to happen, and talk
through any confusion or differences of opinion.
2. As we discuss, we use specific pull requests (PRs) for each page being
changed, so we can view the changes as a living draft.
3. Once we're at the point of writing specific changes into specific pages
(i.e., as we start drafting up PRs), the discussion to finalize each page
happens within the PR primarily.
4. If we can get to a consensus by the middle of next week, we can go ahead
and start committing changes to the website to roll out the clarifications.
Any thoughts, concerns, or other approaches?
Kind regards,
- Karsten

*Dear Operate First community meetup members*,
I hope this email finds you well. I am writing to express my gratitude for
your participation and support throughout Season 2 of the Operate First
community meetup. Your contributions have made this season a great success!
We have had the pleasure of hearing from a diverse group of projects,
users, and contributors who shared their experiences. Our discussions were
insightful and engaging, thanks to the active participation of our
community members.
Here is a link to season 2 (YouTube) -

As we near the end of season 2, I want to thank all our speakers and
attendees; your dedication and work made this season possible.
I am enthusiastic about what the future holds for our Operate First
community. With your continued support and participation, I am confident we
will have more stimulating topics in the upcoming seasons.
On a personal note, using the end of this season, I will take a step back
from hosting the meetup and from being a co-chair of the Operate First SIG
community to focus on other projects, including Backstage
<https://backstage.io/> and Janus IDP <https://janus-idp.io/blog>.
While I will miss our discussions and community engagement, I am excited to
dedicate more time to these initiatives and look forward to staying
connected with the community.
As it happens, Karsten Wade, Chair of SIG-Community and community architect
for Operate First, is creating an all-encompassing meetup plan for the
project. He has volunteered to lead the season 2 closing for the Operate
First community meetup on Tuesday, April 11., 2023, at 11 am ET. We'll take
this opportunity to reflect on the accomplishments of this season, share
our feedback, and discuss plans and ideas for the future.
